How to find a good deal on a cell phone without a contract

If you do not want to be locked into a contract, postpaid billing will be more expensive than prepaid service.

Bargains are available as long as you do not use your phone for data or browsing the Internet. Time is simply available at low rates by paying in advance for a month or longer.

At least one supplier, Net10, rolls minute unused in order not to lose as long you keep the active service. This can be very useful in the future because the unused minutes can add up big time for several months.

If all of a sudden, you need to use your phone much in one month, you have to pay more for this period, given that the minutes were recorded from previous months.

The first place you should look is with your current operator. Ask if they offer a prepaid or pay-as-you-go without a contract plan.

It is more difficult to go without a contract if you don't prepay. But if you will be charged for usage, I recommend you get an unlimited plan, so you get no surprises at the time of the invoice. Some carriers provide post-paid plans no-contract plans. Ask your own carrier. Or do a search on Google for those terms.

Smartphone phone vs Basic

The contracts are useful for some reason. You can get an expensive smartphone for free or at very low initial cost. The term of the contract covers the cost of the phone initially covering the carrier for you.

This is why contracts include early termination fee. Some carriers have effectively reduce these costs over time, because they recover their cost of the phone one month to month.

Prepaid, on the other hand, will limit you to a selection of basic phones if you want to keep your cost o down.

Smart phones are available with most plans, but you will end up paying a high price to cover the cost of the phone.

Final determination - the choice is yours

Depending on where you want to recognize a good deal, you need to decide if you want to save on the monthly cost or on the type of phone you are using.

Monthly cellular contract-free service can be cheap if you are ready to have a basic phone. But you can still have a good deal with a monthly charge down when you use a smart phone, if you are willing to pay most of the cost of the phone from the outset.
