"In the Studio" turns the corner in the winter months by hosting a career finance journalist with a daily electronic newsletter read and often cited, and, in my opinion, is the best single writer covering the venture capital and private equity today.
Dan Primack of fortune covered the world of private equity and venture capital for more than a decade. His work speaks for itself, with its "Term Sheet" daily mail that reached almost everyone in the industry and willingness to share his opinions freely and dig and dig to the bottom of a story. Primack has a kind of journalistic "gumshoe leather" work ethic, and while it can certainly ruffle feathers (even feathers by very powerful people) with his work, he built a loyal following, for many years, that just continues to grow.
In this video, Primack joined me "in the Studio" on one of his recent trips to San Francisco. Because of their deep knowledge covering venture capital, it does not really prepare for this session, I just asked him some questions and he filled in all holes with candid answers. Basically, anyone in the capital risk and/or interested by this industry should watch this video. In our presentation (originally recorded on October 23, 2012), Primack explained why the VCs away from industries, why LinkedIn IPO was without fault, to deal with the effect of secondary on the IPO markets, how some VCs can lose sight of their real customers (the limited partners), reason why it is unhealthy for the founders to take large chunks of money on the table before the investors make and the challenge facing all venture capital firmslarge and small, while the global asset class continues to shrink, focusing money in less funds, and with less global managers.
